Firefighters from Colfax, Baxter, Mingo and Prairie City responded to a call of a house fire around 1 p.m. on Thursday at 108 N. Lincoln St. in Colfax. Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the front door of the home and from the rear as well.

Firefighters fought the blaze and appeared to have it mostly under control by about 2 p.m.
