Memorial Day services planned at 
local cemeteries on Sunday, Monday

In addition to the Memorial Day services scheduled for Union Cemetery on Monday, a number of services have been scheduled for Sunday at cemeteries around Jasper County.

Services will be held at Memorial Gardens in Newton at 9:30 a.m.; in Kellogg at 10 a.m.; at the Slagel Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.; at the Palo Alto Cemetery at 11:15 a.m.; at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Metz at 11:45 a.m.; and at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. All events are sponsored by the Jasper County Veterans Council.

Memorial Day services also will be at Wittemberg Cemetery at 9 a.m. Monday, with guest Emeron Dettman, a former teacher and World War II veteran, speaking. St. John’s Cemetery, located north of Newton, will have an open house on Saturday from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
