Absentee ballots now available for upcoming Baxter special election
Absentee ballots for the upcoming May 19 Baxter special city election are now available, according to Dennis K. Parrott, Jasper County auditor and commissioner of elections.
Persons wishing to vote by absentee ballot may do so personally in the Office of the Commissioner of Elections, Room 201, in the Jasper County Courthouse in Newton between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registered voters also may request a ballot be mailed to them by calling the office at 792-7016 and requesting an absentee ballot request form be mailed to them. The voter then completes the information on the request form and mails it back to auditor’s office so an absentee ballot may be sent to them.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 5 p.m. Friday, May 15. In-office voter registration for the special election closes at 5 p.m. Friday, May 8. Iowa law permits same-day voter registration. Voters may register at their polling locations on election day and cast their ballot there. For more information, call 792-7016.
