Hawks earn sweep of Tri-County
LYNNVILLE — Lynnville-Sully earned a sweep of Tri-County Wednesday afternoon in South Iowa Cedar League golf action at Diamond Trail Golf Club.
“We finally had a terrific night,” Lynnville-Sully co-coach Dwight Beyer said. “The scores were reflective of playing at home and great weather.”
On the boys side, Nick Beyer’s 37 led the Hawks to a 154-184 victory. Beyer made a pair of birdies on the round — the fifth and eighth holes — to shoot 1-over-par. Tom Trettin came in with a 38, while Bill Trettin — Lynnville-Sully’s No. 5 golfer — shot a 39 thanks to a pair of birdies. Bill Trettin birdied the second and fifth holes — both par-5s.
Zach Stafford rounded out the counting four scores with a 40. A pair of birdies by Stafford — the second and fifth holes — helped him overcome a double-bogey on the seventh hole.
For non-counting scores, Dan Zegers shot a solid 43, and Matt Smith came in with a 52 for the Hawks. The boys are now 6-1 for the season.
Jake Edmundson led Tri-County with a 43.
On the girls side, Aimee Rolffs led the Hawks to a 213-230 victory over the Trojans. Rolffs carded a 48 to be low female golfer for the day.
Katelyn Rozenboom — a No. 5 golfer as well — came in second for the meet with a 52, while Bailey Zegers carded a 55. Jessica Van Wyk rounded out the counting four scores with a 58.
“We were especially happy with the scores turned in by our number five golfers for both the girls and boys — Katelyn Rozenboom and Bill Trettin,” Beyer said. “It certainly takes the pressure off our top four to know that there is help behind them in case they are having an off night.”
For non-counting golfers, Katelyn Van Wyk shot a 60, and Cierra Stafford brought a 65 to the clubhouse. The girls stay unbeaten at 7-0 for the season.
Ashley Ehret led Tri-County with a 55.
Lynnville-Sully is next in action on Monday at Sigourney.
“Our golfers know that we have some very challenging matches ahead, so it is imperative that we continue to show improvement,” Beyer said.
