Deon Walker, a sophomore at Lynnville-Sully, placed first in the male-vocal category at the 2009 Iowa Talents for Christ competition held on Saturday, April 4. The event was hosted at Grandview Park Baptist School in Des Moines.

Talents for Christ is an annual program sponsored by the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches. The purpose of the program is to prepare young people to use and hone their talents for the Lord’s glory.

The competition spans a variety of categories: preaching, Bible knowledge, interpretive story telling, drama, piano, brass, woodwinds, singing both individual and group, writing and others. First place earned Walker a $1,000 college scholarship and the opportunity to go on to compete in the National TFC competition in Elyria, Ohio on June 25 for an opportunity to win a $5,000 scholarship.
