MAXWELL — The tough task of knocking off No. 10 Roland-Story was almost successful Saturday night in Maxwell. Seniors Julia Robinson and Jordan Maher combined to score 25 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders lost at home by just eight points, 52-44, to a very good Lady Norse team. The Raiders were out-rebounded for the second straight night — this time by 17 — and they turned the ball over 22 times in the loss. Robinson finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Maher added 13 points and six rebounds. Senior Mackenzie Petermeier had seven points and a career-high eight steals. The Raiders missed 10 free throws and lost by eight. CMB (5-6) gets another chance at Roland-Story (10-0) Friday in Story City. The Raiders also travel to Story City for a Class 2A playoff game later this season. Tonight, CMB hosts Woodward-Granger in Maxwell.

PCM rallies past rival Colfax-Mingo COLFAX — Freshman Scott Bruxvoort collected a team-high 22 points and 15 rebounds as PCM came from behind in a 51-36 victory over Colfax-Mingo Friday night. The Mustangs (5-3, 4-2) trailed 11-6 after the first quarter, but came back to tie it at 21 at halftime. In the second half, PCM outscored the Tigerhawks (2-5, 2-5) 30-15, including a 19-6 fourth quarter. “It’s kind of been our story — the games we’ve been competitive and close in, we just don’t seem to get four full quarters,” Colfax-Mingo coach John Borts said. “We get behind and go back down to the offensive end and we tend to rush things and not stay composed. We hurry up and take a rushed shot.” Michael Wilson led Colfax-Mingo with 12 points, with 10 of those coming in the first half. He also led the team with five rebounds and four steals. Dylan Berkey added 11 points while Tim Dille collected seven. For PCM, Gavin Burns added nine points, including the teams’ two 3-pointers, and Rand Hazelton added eight points. Josh Fosenburg grabbed eight rebounds as well.

PCM girls split in weekend action PCM, ranked No. 9 in Class 2A, split a pair of games in girls basketball action Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Mustangs came away with an 83-27 victory over Colfax-Mingo in Heart of Iowa Conference play. The Mustangs jumped to a 25-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 40-point lead at halftime over the Tigerhawks (1-8, 0-7). “We really tried to force the tempo of the game and we were pretty successful,” PCM coach Ben Anderson said. “We took good shots during the game and our transition game worked out pretty well for us.” Katlyn Wood led PCM with 18 points and eight rebounds while Lindsey Vande Wall added 15 points and eight assists. “They’re a good team,” Colfax-Mingo coach Jeff Lindsay said. “They’re big, fast and any mistakes we made, they took advantage of. I thought we played with a toughness and we didn’t back down.” On Saturday, PCM lost a 55-42 decision to Class 3A No. 8 Pella. The Mustangs are now 7-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
