No. 8 Sigourney holds off Lynnville-Sully girls

SIGOURNEY — Class 2A No. 8 Sigourney held on for a 40-35 victory over the Lynnville-Sully girls basketball team Wednesday night, remaining unbeaten on the season. Sigourney jumped to the early 12-5 lead after the first quarter, but Lynnville-Sully (8-3, 8-2) came back with a 13-8 second quarter to trail by just two at halftime. “We did a good job on the defensive end keeping Sigourney off balance,” L-S coach Jerry Hulsing said. “We had our chances on offense, but we missed some scoring opportunities and had some key turnovers. We were not able to get a lead.” The Hawks shot just 32.4 percent from the field while making just 42.1 percent of their free throws. The team also committed 24 turnovers in the loss.
