No. 1 Valley spoils H.A. Lynn opener

Newton coach Ed Ergenbright expected top-ranked West Des Moines Valley to be very good Friday. They were very good and then some as the Tigers spoiled the Cardinals’ home opener at new H.A. Lynn Stadium. Valley scored on its first play from scrimmage, led 49-0 at halftime and rested its starters the entire second half in a 63-12 win. “They are better than I thought,” Ergenbright said. “And I thought they were really good. I have not seen a team that efficient on offense. They do everything well.
