L-S volleyball team loses to Tri-County in four

THORNBURG — Lynnville-Sully dropped a South Iowa Cedar League volleyball match to Tri-County Monday night. Tri-County won 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20. Tara Van Rees led the Hawks (0-5) with seven kills. Brooke Van Soelen added six kills and Caitlin Cross had five. Josie Morris chipped in 17 assists, while Tonya De Cook had 15 digs. Katelyn Van Wyk and Van Rees had 11 digs each. De Cook added six aces, while Van Rees had five. “The difference in the match came early with our inability to pass the ball and adjust our serve reception,” Hawks coach Al Hodgeman said. “Another key factor was our poor serving. Positives for the evening included our improved kill efficiency. Some of the girls are finally learning that we need to put the ball down on the floor versus just keeping it in play. “Although this loss hurts a little more because I know the girls were wanting to get that first win, I’m not giving up on them and I know they won’t give up, either,” Hodgeman added. “We are getting better, and when we learn to focus on the fundamentals, then the wins will start to come in bunches.” The Hawks host Iowa Valley this evening, with varsity action at about 7:15 p.m.

The Hawks next run Monday in Brooklyn.
