Monarch Migration

Shawn Retman was surprised last weekend when at his residence south of Kellogg he discovered hundreds of monarch butterflies attached to trees, including one (lower right) that had been tagged. Monarchs are preparing for their annual migration to Mexico, and Jasper County Conservation Board naturalist Katie Cantu will be hosting a tagging program Sept. 26 at Maytag Park, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to join. Nets will be provided.
