City of Colfax to celebrate annual festival this weekend

Mineral Springs Days in scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Colfax, and this edition could be the most action-packed ever. A wide variety of special events are scheduled for the two days.
The fun kicks off on Friday afternoon with dinner at the Colfax Senior Citizens Center from 5 until 7 p.m. Don’t miss the donkey bingo outside the center at 6 p.m. Apparently, a donkey will be choosing the numbers. Big Wheel Races will be at that time as well.
The evening’s entertainment will feature The Diplomats of Solid Sound, an Iowa City-based band that features Memphis soul, funk and jazz, in the spirit of Booker T and the MG’s, at the Anspach stage in Women’s Club Park starting at 7 p.m.
A full slate of activities are scheduled for Saturday. The day starts with a pancake breakfast at the Colfax Christian Church brought to you by Chris Cakes. Serving is from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. and adults cost $6 with kids 12 and under costing $3.
A co-ed slow pitch softball tournament starts at 8:30 a.m. at Kelly Fields. An entry fee for teams can be paid on the day of the tournament. Call Danae Edwards to register at (515) 681-7969.
The Skunk River Cruzers Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. near the Colfax-Mingo Elementary School. Local talent will be featured at the Anspach Stage in Women’s Club Park starting at 2:30 p.m. If you’d like to be part of the show, call Brad Magg at (515) 669-2239.
Downtown sidewalk sales will be featured from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and a variety of delicious food, including barbecue and homemade sides, funnel cakes, corn dogs, hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream will be available downtown from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Mineral Springs Days wrap up Saturday evening with the inaugural Demolition Derby in the horse ring at the Colfax Fairgrounds. Admission is $5 for adults, children from 3 to 12 are $3, and under 3 are free. The derby winner will receive $600 in winnings, with $400 to second place. Items from the grill will be available from the Colfax Fire Department.
