County Annex Building will get a new roofThe Jasper County Annex Building which houses the Department of Human Services offices, Conservation Board, RRACAP and several other organizations, will soon be getting a new roof. Doug McClun, the county’s maintenance director, said the building is long overdue for a new roof. “We’ve fought leaks in that building since I’ve been here,” McClun said. “It’s in very bad shape.” McClun has been in the county maintenance department since 1997. He said the south side of the building’s roof is asphalt strips, susceptible to leaks. The supervisors approved the low bid from TCR Roofing LLC of What Cheer. The company will install a Duro-Last roofing system, the same type of roof installed in the last few years on the Jasper County Courthouse and the Jasper County Attorney’s building. McClun said the Duro-Last system has proven very durable and leak-proof, and the system will work well with the new eaves installed on the Annex last year. The county had $35,000 in the capital fund for the Annex roofing project. In other action Tuesday, the supervisors: • Approved revisions to a resolution concerning procurement of goods and services for the Secondary Roads Department. Jasper County Engineer Jim Christensen said the county roads often experience concrete blowups that require immediate attention. In order to respond to those incidents quicker, Christensen proposed adding pavement patching material and ready-mix concrete to the policy which covers purchases that can be made without competitive bids. Expenditures in excess of $1,000 will still require a minimum of two bids and approval by the supervisors. • Approved the low bid of $20,624.40 from Lake View Concrete Products for reinforced concrete pipe. The pipe will be used for a project on West 76th Street North west of Baxter. Christensen said the pipe will be delivered in approximately three weeks and work should begin on the project shortly after that time.
