Fallon will make second trip to Newton on Saturday

By Daily News Staff

Ed Fallon, Democratic candidate for the 3rd Congressional District, will make his second stop in Newton in less than a month on Saturday. Fallon will kick off a series of town hall meetings to discuss the economy in Newton at 9 a.m. Saturday at Midtown Café. He also will travel to Brooklyn, Oskaloosa and Pleasantville. Fallon, who is running for the Third Congressional District seat which is currently held by Congressman Leonard Boswell, will introduce his priorities and talk about the differences between himself and his opponent, according to a press release. “The economy is in a shambles and we have many issues that need to be addressed. One thing we need to do is end the war in Iraq. It is costing us almost one trillion dollars and will continue to have a serious, negative impact on our economy. The money being spent on the war could be used to make Social Security solvent, fund health care for all Americans, invest in new technologies to reduce our dependence on oil, and improve infrastructure such as roads and bridges,” Fallon said in a released statement. During Fallon’s first trip to Newton in March, he discussed NAFTA and developing a fair trade agreement, along with creating new jobs, campaign finance reform, improving the health care system and the economy. “I am very interested in hearing the public’s thoughts on our economy,” says Fallon. “It’s important that we have an open and straightforward dialogue about this and other issues facing our state and nation,” he said.
