Locals struggle Saturday at KnoxvilleBy CRAIG MURPHY NDN Sports WriterKNOXVILLE — Shane Stewart won Saturday’s Knoxville 360 Nationals. “The car was unbelievable,” Stewart said. Stewart took the lead at the start of Saturday’s 25-lap main, then lost the top spot to Gary Wright on lap 12. Stewart reclaimed the lead on lap 15 and survived a late restart to take the $10,000 top prize. The night didn’t go well for locals. Newton’s Brett Golik dropped out at the start of Saturday’s B-main, while Prairie City’s Nathan Mosher did not compete Saturday. Mosher had a disappointing night Friday which would have put him deep in Saturday’s D-main. In Saturday’s 410 action, Bob Weuve battled throttle linkage issues. Weuve had been working on the engine of Colfax racer Robert Bell last week, until it was discovered there was more damage than initially thought. Bell expects to have his engine fixed today, and will likely run in tomorrow night’s Ultimate Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. NASCAR star Kasey Kahne and defending Knoxville Nationals champion Donny Schatz are racing in tonight’s Front Row Challenge in Oskaloosa. The four-night Knoxville Nationals kicks off Wednesday with the first of two qualifying nights. |
