McCain to visit Newton Saturday
Presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will be in Newton Saturday as part of another visit to Iowa.
McCain plans several stops throughout central Iowa today and Saturday, including a breakfast town hall meeting at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Newton DMACC.
McCain’s visit comes on the heels of his announcement that he, along with fellow Republican candidate Rudy Giuliani, plans to skip the GOP straw poll slated for August in Ames. McCain's national campaign manager, Terry Nelson, said the senator would focus instead on Iowa’s caucuses next winter.
“It is clear that the Ames straw poll will not be a meaningful test of the leading candidates’ organizational abilities, so we have decided to forego our participation in the event,” Nelson sai
