Paint Your Pet with Gezellig Brewing Company, Art Uncorked

Painting fundraiser will support the Jasper County Animal Rescue League

If you have a love for your pet like many people do, Gezellig Brewing Company is collaborating with the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Art Uncorked for Paint Your Pet. The event, which lets participants paint pictures of their own pets, is from 1 to 4 p.m. March 8 at Gezellig.

Gezellig Brewing Event Coordinator Kim Huffman said this is the third time they have collaborated with Art Uncorked. A unique idea, participants first submit a photo of their pet which will be turned into a sketch by an artist with Art Uncorked. The pet owner will then be able to paint their pet any way they want.

If the thought of completing a perfect painting of a pet seems daunting, Huffman said participants don’t have to be fluent in painting to take part. Whether people want their pictures to look realistic or maybe a little more fun anyone can come out and do it.

“You don’t need prior experience and you have all afternoon” Huffman said. “You can do whatever style you want it’s not a right or wrong thing.”

To participate, registration is $40 and can be found on the event’s Facebook page. A photo of the pet should also be emailed to info@elartuncorked.com by March 5.

Besides being a fun event centered around pets, JCARL is also taking home 50 percent of the fee.

“There might be one or two extra canvasses in case somebody wants to bring a friend or something but usually its a prepaid event,” Huffman said.

This isn’t the first collaboration between JCARL and Gezellig. The support given by the brewing company is greatly appreciated by JCARL staff.

“Kim is always trying to organize new stuff with us as the Duffy’s are huge supporters as well. They have actually adopted two dogs from us,” JCARL staff member Chrissy Gamble said.

Event organizers have even seen returning painters who want to make sure each of their furry frields has their own portrait.

“Everybody can do this. It’s for everybody,” Huffman said.

Whether you want to paint your pet in a realistic fashion or just paint them for fun while you enjoy a beer with friends, the event will help support the animals currently calling JCARL home.

“We love their support ... They are trying to work with us on quite a few different events coming up,” JCARL Director Jennifer Mouchka said.
