C-M boys sprint past Iowa Valley

MARENGO — Brady Berkey had 19 points and nine rebounds, Jacob Nichols had a double-double and Colfax-Mingo’s boys’ basketball team routed Iowa Valley on Tuesday night during South Iowa Cedar League action.

Colfax-Mingo led 12-4 after one quarter and held a 24-10 advantage at halftime.

The Tigerhawks outscored the Tigers 20-10 in the third quarter and both teams scored 10 points in the fourth.

Berkey added four assists and three steals to his 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Colfax-Mingo (9-3 overall, 7-3 in the SICL).

Nichols tallied 11 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.

David Rague added seven points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals and Zach Steenhoek finished with six points, three steals and four assists.

Cole Bracewell collected five points and six rebounds and A.J. Gibson had four points and five boards.

The Tigerhawks, who have won three straight and four of their last five, were 4-of-23 from 3-point range and Iowa Valley was 5-of-27.

Brady Ward led Iowa Valley (2-11, 1-10) with 10 points. It was Iowa Valley’s eighth straight loss.

Colfax-Mingo plays Lynnville-Sully in an SICL varsity doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. on Friday in Sully.

Colfax-Mingo 45

The Tigerhawks trailed by eight at halftime but couldn’t keep pace with Iowa Valley during a 64-45 loss during SICL play on Tuesday.

Statistics were not available at presstime.

“We played a tough first half but too many lapses on defense in the second half and not enough good offensive possessions kept us from mounting a comeback,” Colfax-Mingo coach Blake Warrick said.

Colfax-Mingo is now 4-9 overall and 4-6 in SICL play.

Iowa Valley, which came into the game with three straight losses, improved to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
