Supervisors approve purchase of culverts

Employee hiring resolution, recorder’s monthly report also reviewed

The Jasper County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of miscellaneous stock and 84-inch culvert pipes from Illowa Culverts for $52,933 during its Tuesday morning meeting at the courthouse.

Compared to recent meetings, this week’s agenda was rather small. Jasper County Engineer Russ Stutt said Illowa Culverts has submitted bids to the county in the past. Illowa proposed the miscellaneous pipes would cost $42,949 while the 84-inch pipes were estimated at $9,984.

Secondary bidders proposed bids of approximately $44,424 and $47,320 for the miscellaneous stock pipes and proposed the 84-inch pipes could cost about $10,424 or $11,052 for the county engineer.

The supervisors voted 3-0 to approve the purchase of the culverts from Illowa.

The Jasper County Board of Supervisors also approved the hiring resolution of a full-time jailer position to be filled by Adam Hackathorn at a pay rate of $18.10 an hour. The board also approved two, part-time jailer positions to be filled by Kolbe Wilkerson and Kassandra Whitson, both of which will be paid at a rate of $18.10 an hour.

Supervisors also approved the recorder’s monthly report for October 2019. According to county documents, the Jasper County Recorder’s Office collected a total fee of $23,470.

The board then went into two closed session meetings.
