Booker is the president we need

Ever since I heard Cory Booker just one year ago at the annual Democratic Liberty and Justice dinner, I have been impressed with him and his powerful message of inclusion. I was thrilled when he announced his candidacy.

On May 24, he honored Fritz and me by coming to our home in Newton. We packed almost a 100 people in our house, thanks to young workers who moved all the furniture out of our front rooms.

He was impressive with his talk of hope and change. He has a humble beginning, so that he understands the need to address the poverty, and that we demand justice in ALL areas of American life. He worked in a bipartisan manner for criminal justice reform in the senate.

Cory understands foreign policy, he serves on the foreign relations committee, the Judiciary Committee and Environmental and Public workshops.

He has served for seven years as mayor of Newark, N.J., as a United States Senator since 2013. His experience is tremendous. And I hear about the education and intelligence of other candidates. Does the public know that Cory Booker has both a BA and MA from Stanford University, is a Rhoads Scholar with an MA from Oxford, has his doctorate degree from Yale? This is the kind of president we need with intellect, experience and a magnetic personality.

People want change, not just hope for change.

I will end with the direct quote from the opinion page of Oct. 20 from the Des Moines Register.

“Maybe Booker will bring together all of his ingredients into a winning campaign, but if not, we hope his fervent message of bringing Americans together will survive this Democratic primary. Without it, all these candidates’ promises of substantive progress will amount to squat.”

Please join me in caucusing for Cory Booker on Feb. 5.

Our country needs him now more than ever.
