Judy Smith

Oct. 15, 2019

Judy Smith passed peacefully Oct. 15, 2019, with her family by her side. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at the Palestine Lutheran Church, 1375 Highway 210, Huxley, Iowa 50124, with a funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery.

Judy Kay (Lay) Smith was born Oct. 3, 1947, to Glen and Nellie Lay of Fulton, Kan., as one of six siblings. Judy married Granville Smith Aug. 6, 1967. Granville and Judy had three children, son, Granville Michael (Ann) Smith of Urie, Mo., daughters, Dr. Natalie SuzAnne (Jeff) Harding of Colfax and Amy (Cory) Larson of Huxley. Judy also leaves behind a brother Bob (Delores) Lay of Hillsboro, Ore.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and was looking forward to twin great-grandchildren.

Judy was a cheerleader, a best friend and Granville’s girlfriend as a proud member of the Class of 1965 at Fulton High School. She worked at The Western in Fort Scott, Kan., before becoming a mother, farmer’s wife, the homemaker, an antique collector and a grandmother. Judy’s favorite hobbies included Saturday auctions and Sunday dinners. She was a lifelong hand-made and home-made crafter of food and many other items she leaves behind. She enjoyed her doll collection while cross-stitching, quilting, recipe collecting, genealogy digging, gardening, keeping up with her husband of 52 year’s adventures and running after her grandchildren. Judy rarely missed an opportunity to be by the side of her husband, children or grandchildren as she was an active member of all they were achieving. She will be dearly missed, by all those that came into contact with her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Osaga Historical Society, 408 W. Osaga St., Fulton, Kansas 66738.
