Dolores A. Nichol, 73, of Newton, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at Accura Healthcare of Newton West. A visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to Dolores’ family (checks made payable to Chad Nichol) may be left at the funeral home.

Dolores, the daughter of Lester W. and Maurine (Angell) Troutner, was born Feb. 1, 1946, in Manchester. She grew up in LaMoille and graduated from West Marshall High School in 1964. In high school she was a Majorette. On July 18, 1964, Dolores was united in marriage with Gary Gilbert Nichol. They made their home in Marshalltown for a few years before moving to Newton. Dolores worked for many years in the kitchen at the Jasper County Care Facility and later worked for Progress Industries. She enjoyed listening to music, playing cards and dancing. Dolores also liked handing out candy for political candidates during the 4th of July parade.

Dolores is survived by her children, Melissa Morris, Deanna (Steve) Thompson and Chad Nichol (Lori McNew), all of Newton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her siblings, Gloria Brown of Newton, Steve Troutner of Newton and Cheryl (Kevin) Krough of Marshalltown; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary in 2005; grandson, Steven Gilkison; brother, Jim Troutner; and niece, Stacey Rae Brown.
