Marion W. Castings, 99, of Newton, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at Nelson Manor. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton. The family will greet friends immediately following the service with a lunch at the church. Memorials to St. Stephen’sEpiscopal Church or the Newton Public Library may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Marion, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Walton) Yeomans, was born April 14, 1920, in Manchester, England. She grew up in Manchester and served in the Women’s Air Force during World War II. On Sept. 4, 1944, Marion was united in marriage with Everett W. Castings in Manchester. After the birth of their son, John, they moved to the United States and made their home in Jasper County, living in Reasnor and Newton. Everett and Marion would welcome two more children, Mike and Diane. Despite her 70 years of living in the United States she always maintained her English accent and was affectionately referred to as “The English Lady.” Using her fashion training she received in England, Marion worked in clothing retail in Newton for many years. She was an active member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church for more than 70 years. She was also a volunteer for the Newton School District, Jasper County Museum and the Women’s League of Voters. Marion was a talented seamstress and made many wedding dresses.

Marion is survived by her sons, John (Sheryl) Castings of Waukee and Mike (Laura) Castings of Newton; daughter, Diane (Robert) Uhlig of Boalsburg, Pa.; her 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Yeomans and Lucille Caughey; and her many nieces and nephews, including nephew, Bill Caughey. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett Castings; granddaughter, Lindsay Fitzgerald; great-grandson, Daniel Castings; and her five siblings.
