With thanks to many

As Jasper County Chairman of the annual CWS/CROP Walk to combat hunger in the USA and abroad, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the many parties who helped make the event the success that it was this year.

First, to Dustin Teays for the fine cover story in the Newton Daily News; the publicity is greatly appreciated. Secondly, to the 12 church contingents who provided participants and therefore collected pledges toward the cause. They include Congregational United Church of Christ, First Baptist Church, First Christian Church, First Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, Sacred Heart Church, St. Luke United Methodist Church, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, and the United Presbyterian Church, all in Newton; the Colfax United Methodist Church; and First Reformed Church in Prairie City. Thanks to their diligence, Jasper County can be proud of the part they are playing in providing funds to feed the needy in the state and other designated areas where the need is greatest. (The results of the totals collected will be released at a later date, a portion of which will support food banks throughout the county.) Thanks also to St. Stephen’s Church for hosting the reception following the walk, and to Newton’s Mission Coalition for providing refreshments and distributing publicity materials and donation envelopes to those walking in a timely manner.

Finally, thanks to the generosity of Jasper County citizens for rising to the challenge and doing their part with the belief that one day hunger will be eradicated in our world. May God bless you all!
