Crash closes Dollar General temporarily

Business remains closed until further notice

The Newton Dollar General is closed after a car crashed into the side of the building Monday afternoon.

According to a press release, at 3:45 p.m. the Newton Police Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at Dollar General, 2617 First Ave. E. Witnesses described a mid-sized, gray, four-door passenger car driven by a female with dark hair and appeared to be in her late 40s or early 50s.

The woman allegedly struck the building with her vehicle and left the scene. The vehicle caused extensive damage to the building and employees had to close the store following the accident.

If anyone has information regarding the identity of the female driver or the vehicle they are encouraged to call the police station.
