PCM volleyball loses to Comets

MONROE — Missing its starting setter, Prairie City-Monroe's volleyball team couldn't keep up with North Polk on Tuesday night.

The Comets opened their Heart of Iowa Conference slate with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-6 win over the Mustangs.

Celeste Wagaman had seven kills to lead the Mustang attack at the net. Claire Wilson finished with two kills, six digs and two aces and Bella Stone tallied 11 assists and seven digs.

Chelsea Bird finished with a team-high eight digs, while Chloe Inskeep and Meghan Kinnamon each had three digs.

Bird was 8-of-8 in serves, Wilson finished 7-for-7 and Inskeep was 6-of-6. PCM connected on 26-of-31 from behind the service line.

Starting setter Shelby Voeller sprained her ankle in practice last night and is expected to be out around two weeks, according to PCM coach Mike Vittetoe.

PCM (4-13 overall, 1-2 in the HOIC) plays in the North Mahaska tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday in New Sharon. North Polk improved to 14-6 overall and 1-0 in HOIC play.
