Seats available in upcoming C-M school board election

Iowa school board elections will be Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jasper County Fairgrounds in Colfax and the Mingo Community Center, 200 E. Railroad St. Voters may vote across district lines for any one candidate within a director district.

There will be four Director Districts open on the Colfax-Mingo Community School District Board of Education:

Director District #2 — Currently held by Jan Myers.

Director District #3 — Currently held by Mardell Tomlonovic.

Director District #4 — Currently held by Mary Poulter.

Director District #6 — Currently held by Brandie Gean.

The board member-elects for DD#2, DD#3, DD#4, and DD#6 will begin a four-year term November 2019.

School board candidates must be an eligible elector and a resident of one of the districts open for board seat.

You may also pick up these documents at the office of board secretary Deb Hodgson at the high school. Call Deb at 515-674-3247 to arrange this.

Candidates must collect a minimum of 31 signatures and the Affidavit of Candidacy must be notarized.

The first day that nomination papers can be submitted to Hodgson is Monday, Aug. 26. Candidates must have both their notarized Affidavit and their Nomination Petitions submitted to Hodgson at the high school no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19 to be considered eligible.

The community, the students, and the school district all benefit when you get involved by attending board meetings, volunteering for school-sponsored clubs such as the Colfax-Mingo Music Boosters, the Parent/Teacher Association, the Colfax-Mingo Athletic Boosters and any number of committees and classroom activities. Think about all you have to offer your school district and make plans to serve in any way you can.
