5 things to know from the July Baxter School Board meeting

1. A quote to upgrade the communication cabling in the existing building and the new building addition from Van Maanen Electric was approved. MEP Exact Built was approved to provide a detailing of the structure of the new wiring in the new building addition. The cost was $3,276 and was recommended by Story Construction who is working on the construction project.

2. The board approved continuing with a five-member board. The board currently consists of president Jon Northrup, Colette Kunkel, Debbie Meyer, Cory Robinson and Kim Tichy. Middle school wrestling coach and assistant high school wrestling coach Shawn Feller’s resignation approved. Middle school baseball coach Scott Bucklin’s resignation was also approved.

3. The continuation of a 28E agreement with West Marshall Community School District was approved for position including food service, Project Lead the Way and Speech. A 28E agreement with Newton Community School District for West Academy was also approved. A sharing agreement with Colfax-Mingo, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-NESCO and West Marshall for soccer is still in discussions.

4. Playground resurfacing was approved for $35,289 from ABCreative. The new surface will have 3.25 inch thickness.

5. Baxter Police Chief John Hicks was approved as the Level II Investigator for the school district. That is an update from Jasper County Deputy Sheriff Mike Gunsaulus, who was previously approved.
