Newton Police Department

• Jordan L. Simpson, 20, of Monroe, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at midnight Aug. 16 in the 100 block of South Third Avenue West. According to the Newton Police Department, officers pulled over a vehicle in the 100 block of South Third Avenue West because of a third break light that wasn’t working. Newton police made contact with Simpson, and they could smell marijuana coming from his vehicle. Officers asked Simpson about the smell and Simpson admitted there was approximately one gram of marijuana and a pipe in the center console of the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and found two clear bags containing a green leafy substance, a pipe with residue in it and a small tin that contained roaches consistent with remains of rolled marijuana cigarettes. Simpson was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
