C-M prepares for students to hit the halls

90 minute late starts now on Mondays

The start of the new school year is here for Colfax-Mingo and staff is ready for students to once again show Tigerhawk pride. Also starting his first school day at Colfax-Mingo is new superintendent Erik Anderson, who has actually been hard at work since taking over the position in July.

As superintendent, Anderson said he plans to keep striving maintain the commitment the school has to the students and the community that supports it.

“The connection with our new commitment that our district has been developing over the last year,” Anderson said.

The commitment involves how the school works within their Professional Learning Communities and having a guaranteed and viable curriculum which ties back to the kids going there.

“The things that are probably more education based but they are commitments to our kids overall that are kind of an extension of our mission and vision statement,” Anderson said.

A change this year, the district will now have 90 minute late starts each Monday morning starting in September. The schools previously came in late on Wednesdays.

Anderson said he looking forward getting students in the halls and seeing the school run in its normal routine for the first time.

“What I am looking forward to is school getting started, getting to know people, getting to see our kids back in the school and learning about our school district, actually how it runs ... I am excited to see that,” Anderson said.

Engaging students, whether it through athletics, academics, band, choir, theater or the host of other activities students can be involved is also important to Anderson.

“I am a big advocate for involvement, kids being involved ... I am really excited to be able to be a part of and see our community in showing their commitment to our kids by coming to their events,” Anderson said.
