Newton Nite Hawks to play for MFL title

DES MOINES — Winning the Midwest Football League Western Conference championship game on Saturday propels the Newton Nite Hawks in the MFL championship game on Aug. 24.

According to a posting on the Nite Hawks’ Facebook page, the Newton semi-professional football team beat the Northwest Iowa Bulldogs 32-14 on Saturday in Des Moines. No other information was found on the game on th MFL website nor sent to the Newton Daily News.

The Nite Hawks improved to 11-1. They will take on MFL Eastern Division champions, the Missouri Ravens, for the MFL championship on Aug. 24. The site of the game is to be determinted according to the MFL website.

The two teams met on July 13 with Newton winning 20-14.

The Newton Nite Hawks are co-owned by Mark Mackerman and Gordon Head, who also play for the team. According to the MFL website Josh Christensen is the team’s head coach and David Woods is the team’s defensive coordinator.
