Department

• Devin G. Sutton, 28, of Newton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance at 10:21 a.m. Aug. 6 in the 200 block of North 19th Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call for a suspicious male in Woodland Park. The male was identified as Sutton. Police spoke with Sutton and ran his information through the police system and found a warrant from Boone County and a warrant from the Marshalltown Police Department. Police arrested Sutton who had a plastic bag with jeans in it. Upon searching the jeans, police found a small plastic bottle containing small cotton balls. Police also found unused syringes in the same pocket. Sutton admitted the small cotton balls contained methamphetamine and later tested positive for the substance. Sutton has six previous convictions for possession of a controlled substance. Sutton was arrested on two warrants. One from MPD for absence from custody and one from Boone County for probation violation and the possession charge. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Timothy E. Sholley, 49, of Newton, was arrested at 11:46 p.m. Aug. 6 in the 300 block of East 14th Street North on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear on original charge of driving while license suspended. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jermemaih J. Eilander, 40, of Newton was charged with domestic abuse at 11:44 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 1500 block of North 11th Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call about domestic assault. Police met with the victim who said Eilander punched her in the face and hit her in the knee with a bat. The victim was bleeding from her knee where a scab was broken open and bleeding. She also had red marks and swelling on her face. Police found Eilander in the 900 block of East 12th Street North. Eilander said he and the victim had gotten into an argument and she threw stuff at him. Eilander had a cut and bruise on his lower leg. Police determined Eilander was the primary aggressor and he was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Mark D. Gardner, 56, of Newton was arrested at 6:36 pm Aug. 7 in the 2000 block of West 18th Street South on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear on a OWI charge and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
