• Christian J. Weithers, 18, of Newton was charged with public intoxication at approximately 3 p.m. July 16 in the 300 block of South 11th Avenue West. According to Newton Police Department, three high school age boys appeared to be under the influence at Maytag Pool. A witness said Weithers allegedly was stumbling, hanging on to things and almost vomiting. Police made contact with Weithers, and he had slurred speech and an unsteady balance. Weithers also had a dazed look and small pupils, which can be a sign of impairment while on a controlled substance. Weithers was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Logan V. Paylor, 18, of Newton was charged with third degree burglary from an incident that occurred during the night hours July 17 in the 400 block of East Seventh Street North. According to Newton Police Department, Paylor allegedly entered the victim’s vehicle and stole a camera bag, other items and a Burger King gift card. The next day, Paylor was at Burger King and had the camera bag and the gift card in his possession. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
