Newton Police Department

• Benny Kirichuk, 45, of Newton was charged with violation of a no contact order at approximately 8:45 p.m. July 14 in the 2000 block of West 18th Street South. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call of a domestic fight that included the breaking of a no-contact order between Kirichuk and the victim who was the protected party. Police made contact with the victim who said Kirichuk knocked on her door, and she opened it to see who it was. She then stated Kirichuk entered the hotel room and began arguing with her. Kirichuk allegedly grabbed her wrist when she tried to call 911 and then threw her phone. The victim stated witnesses came to her room when they heard yelling. Police spoke with the witnesses who said they observed the victim and Kirichuk in the room. Police spoke to Kirichuk who said he knew he was violating the no-contact order. Kirichuk was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Eric A. Klingensmith, 47, of Newton was charged with simple assault from an incident that occurred at approximately 4 p.m. July 6. According to the Newton Police Department, Klingensmith allegedly walked across the street from his residence and began yelling at the victim was visiting his neighbor across the street. When the victim tried to return to his home Kligensmith allegedly punched him in the side of the neck causing visible redness and pain. The assault was recorded by another witness who saw the assault. Klingensmith was given a summons to appear in court.
