• Joseph K. Mahl, 32, of Newton, was charged with public intoxication at noon July 7 in the 700 block of First Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call of an intoxicated man. When police arrived, they saw Mahl standing by an empty alcohol container on the ground. Mahl did a breath test and blew above .08. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Robert D. Trotter, 49, of Newton, was charged with trespassing from an incident that occurred at 9 a.m. May 24 in the 100 block of South Fifth Avenue West. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a criminal trespass call. Trotter had thrown trash into the apartment dumpster without permission. The property manager issued a no trespass order to Trotter Oct. 18, 2018. On May 23 at 10 p.m. Trotter allegedly drove into the parking lot on a lawn mower with a wagon full of trash, throwing some of the trash into the apartment dumpster. Trotter was picked up on the warrant at 12:30 p.m. July 11 in the 500 block of First Street South and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Terry J. Cooper Sr., 68, of Newton, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. July 11 in the 900 block of East 14th Street South on three Jasper County warrants. One was for sex offender registry violations and two were for violation of probation on sex offender registry violation charges. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
