MONROE — Paige Steenhoek had three hits at the plate and got a win in the circle during PCM’s non-conference softball win over Baxter on July 5.
The Mustangs rallied to defeat the Bolts 8-4 to snap a seven-game losing streak. PCM trailed 2-0 after the third inning but tied it in the fourth and then went in front for good with a six-run fifth inning.
“We had a bad defensive inning in the fifth to lose the game,” PCM coach Crystal Bruntz said. “PCM hit the ball, but we had too many errors and walks.”
Baxter (12-11) committed three errors in the loss.
The Bolts went back in front briefly with their run in the top of the fifth. They also scored a run in the top of the seventh to get within four.
Steenhoek went 3-for-4 at the plate. She also had three RBIs, scored one run and stole a base.
In the circle, Steenhoek (8-16) allowed three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks in seven innings.
McKenzie Eslinger had a solo home run in the second inning for the Bolts. Allison Colyn scored a run in the third, Maddie Pierce scored in the fifth and Holly Jessen scored a run in the seventh.
The Bolts had nine hits in the loss. Eslinger finished with three hits and two RBIs, Pierce had two hits and one RBI and Jessen tallied two hits and three steals. Sydney Schmidt had the other hit and Colyn walked twice.
