Newton Police Department

• Casey J. Brandt, 36, of Newton, was charged with violation of no contact/protective order at approximately 1 p.m. June 10. The complainant alleged Brandt contacted them on a phone. The complainant had a screenshot of the number Brandt called from and it came from Ft. Des Moines. Newton police officers were able to verify Brandt had used that phone and that number at the time and date specified by having Ft. Des Moines police watch footage. Newton officers were unable to get the footage so the Ft. Des Moines police wrote up a report on what they saw. He was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Darion S. Hermes, 18, of Newton, was charged with two counts of eluding and driving while license suspended at approximately midnight June 12. This arrest stemmed from warrants from earlier incidents. At approximately 6 p.m. June 7, officers saw Hermes driving a motorcycle near the 1800 block North 19th Avenue East, knowing his license was suspended. Hermes saw them approaching and attempted to evade the officers. After a brief chase Hermes ditched the motorcycle and fled on foot. At approximately 8 p.m. June 8 in the 500 block of North Fourth Avenue East officers observed Hermes driving a motorcycle. The officers began to puruse and Hermes drove into the MercyOne parking lot. Hermes went up on the sidewalk and began going through Sunset Park. Officers did not continue to pursue. Warrants were issued and Hermes was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Ryan M. Tool, 25, of Ankeny, was charged with third-degree burglary from an incident that occurred July 17, 2018. Tool went to the Ankeny Police Department and told them he had been in Newton recently and used methamphetamine. He then stated that he stole a billfold out of a car. Newton police located the victim and who stated their purse had been stolen between 9:30 p.m. July 17 and 11 a.m. July 18, 2018. Tool told police he just wanted to make it right. It was noted since Tool lives in Ankeny a warrant was issued. Tool was arrested on the warrant for the burglary charge at 9:10 a.m. June 13 at Newton Correctional Facility, where he was being released. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
