MONTEZUMA — Bray Noun Harder was starting on the mound for the fourth time this season for Lynnville-Sully’s Hawk baseball team. It was a road game in the South Iowa Cedar League against Montezuma on Monday.
Noun Harder chalked up his first win of the season in a complete-game one-hit shutout of the Braves. Lynnville-Sully won its fourth SICL game in a row by a 5-0 count and the Hawks have won five in a row.
Also winning their fifth straight game were the Class 1A No. 9 Lynnville-Sully Hawk softball team on Monday. The Hawk girls used an eight-run third inning to roll up a 9-0 win over the Bravettes to go 12-0 in SICL play.
Noun Harder, a junior, had a no-hitter going against the Braves. Montezuma’s Eddie Burgess broke it up with a single in the bottom of the seventh. Noun Harder issued one walk and struck out seven batters.
Lynnville-Sully scored two runs in the third inning. The Hawks added three runs in the sixth for the final margin. The win pushed the Hawk baseball team’s SICL mark to 5-7.
Senior Nick Rea hit two singles, had two RBIs and two stolen bases for the Hawks. Noun Harder hit a single and a double. Blaize Kuhlmann had two singles. Hitting a single each were senior Evan Squires, junior Kinnick McFarland and eighth-grader Conner Maston.
For the Hawk softball team, sophomore Denali Conover (16-2) limited the Bravettes to two hits and struck out six. Senior Shiloh Cunningham tripled and singled and drove in three runs.
Sophomore Megan Van Zante had a single and a double and junior Janelle Rozendaal had two singles. Conover doubled. Senior Carson Fisk and sophomore Korinne Jansen each had a single.
The Hawk softball team (17-4) plays at Prairie City Monroe (6-8) in a 7 p.m. non-conference game on Tuesday.
Lynnville-Sully’s baseball team (7-11) and softball team host North Mahaska on Wednesday in Sully. The SICL varsity games begin at 6 p.m.
