Lynnville-Sully’s teams win on the road in SICL

NORTH ENGLISH — Evan Squires put the visiting Lynnville-Sully Hawks on top quickly with a three-run home run in the first inning on Wednesday night.

Bray Noun Harder one-upped his teammate two innings later. With the Hawk baseball team up on host English Valleys 4-0, Noun Harder doubled the Hawks’ lead with a grand slam in the third inning.

Lynnville-Sully’s baseball team went on to secure an 11-5 win over the Bears in South Iowa Cedar League play. The Hawks are 3-7 in conference play.

The SICL-leading Lynnville-Sully softball team stayed perfect with a 16-12 win over host English Valleys. The Hawks had a 9-5 lead after three frames and was up 16-6 going into the bottom of the seventh.

The Bear girls plated six runs but Lynnville-Sully was able to shut the Bears down. The Hawk girls are 10-0 in conference action.

Braden Alberts, Payton Van Wyk and Noun Harder each took a turn on the mound for the Hawk baseball squad. Alberts got the win as the starter, going 2 1/3 innings and giving up one run on two hits and four walks.

Van Wyk came on to work 3 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and one walk and he struck out six.

Noun Harder pitched one inning, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks. He had one strikeout.

At the plate, Noun Harder had two singles along with his home run. Squires had a single and the home run.

Slater Young hit two singles. Kinnick McFarland and Skyler Sanders had a base hit apiece.

In the softball contest, the Class 1A 12th-ranked Hawks had 20 hits against English Valleys’ pitching. Korinne Jansen had three singles, scored three runs, drove in three runs and had three stolen bases.

Shiloh Cunningham and Carson Fisk each delivered a double and three singles. Cunningham was credited with four RBIs. Mallory Loftus hit three singles.

Janelle Rozendaal and Laci Keen each hit two doubles. Denali Conover doubled and Caitlin Alberts singled.

Conover got the win as she and Loftus pitched. Conover had four innings of work, allowing nine runs on six hits and three walks. She struck out four.

Loftus went three innings in the circle. She had three runs on two hits and one walk and struck out two.

The Hawk softball team (15-4) hosts 1A No. 11 Sigourney at 6 p.m. on Friday at Sully.

Lynnville-Sully’s baseball team (5-10) hosts Sigourney also in SICL play at 6 p.m. on Friday.
