Jasper County Take Away Hunger will help local volunteers package meals to feed families in need June 29.
The June event will be hosted by St. Luke’s United Methodist in Newton. All are invited to gather a team of up to 12 people and collect $360 in donations, the help package the highly nutritious meals to feed the hungry, All are welcome, such as churches, service clubs, businesses, youth groups and individuals who would be willing to help with the packaging event.
In the past years, more than 600,000 meals have been packaged by local volunteers that have fed families in Newton, Colfax, Baxter, Pella, Marshalltown and other communities in Iowa as well as in Texas, Oklahoma, North and South Carolina, Florida and other U.S. states. Meals have also been sent to countries throughout the world such as Haiti, Nicaragua and Sudan.
