PLEASANTVILLE — Colfax-Mingo’s girls’ golf program consisted of only two players in 2015 and four in 2016.

Three years later, the Tigerhawks are headed to the Class 2A state tournament.

Senior Delaney Underwood turned in a personal-best 18-hole score of 75 to lead Colfax-Mingo, and the Tigerhawks edged Van Meter by three strokes to win the 2A Region 4 championship on Monday at Pleasantville Golf and Country Club.

It’s the first state berth since 2004 for Colfax-Mingo’s girls’ program.

Underwood’s 75 went for medalist honors. The Tigerhawks shot a season-best 381 as Reghan Robinette and Kira Warrick both had personal-best marks as the third and fourth counting scores for the day.

“I was very proud of all six of our golfers. They all played well,” Colfax-Mingo coach Mike Underwood said. “To have three girls set or tie personal records today was a huge lift.”

Prairie City-Monroe finished third on the day with a 403. Junior Brooke Dross was the Mustangs’ lone state qualifier as she finished in the sixth and final individual position with a 96. Senior Mack Bussan was one shot off a state berth with a 97.

Underwood had a 39-36 on the day. Her first nine holes featured five pars, including four in a row, and she had six pars and one birdie on her final nine holes. Underwood birdied the par 5 No. 15 during a string of six straight pars or birdies.

“After the first couple holes, Delaney really got her game going and seemed to get better as the round went on,” Coach Underwood said. “All facets of her game were sharp today.”

The other counting score for Colfax-Mingo came from junior Brielle Reed, who shot a 100 and finished ninth overall. Robinette’s 103 tied her personal best and Warrick’s 103 matched her personal best by five strokes.

Robinette finished 11th and Warrick was 12th. Juniors Sydni Hostetter (107) and Shanen Shedenhelm (111) both had non-counting scores.

“I am excited for these girls as they have worked hard all season to accomplish this goal,” Coach Underwood said.

“Our depth has been a strength all season. Our two through six golfers are all capable of shooting quality scores any given day.”

Van Meter’s Kylie Carey, who came in with the best 18-hole average in the field at 79, was the runner-up medalist with a 77. The Bulldogs also will play in the 2A state tournament after finishing second as a team.

Colfax-Mingo’s 381 was more than 18 shots better than its season average. PCM’s 403 was 43 shots better than its average. Mid Prairie finished fourth with a 412 and Davis County came in fifth with a 437.

Brooke Dross shot a consistent 48-48 for her 96. Bussan’s 97 included a 48-49. Senior Allison Wood finished 10th overall with a 101. The final counting score came from junior Gabbi Van Baale as she carded a 109.

Junior Lexi Dross (110) and senior Kaydee Fowler (183) had non-counting scores.

Colfax-Mingo and PCM’s Brooke Dross play in the Class 2A state tournament on May 28-29 at Ames Golf and Country Club in Ames. First-round action on May 28 begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The final 18 holes kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on May 29.
