• Bethany J. Hamilton, 28, of Newton, was charged and arrested for fifth-degree theft and trespass — first offense, at 7:22 p.m. May 16 in the 500 block of East 27th Street South. According to the Newton Police Department, officers were called at 4:30 p.m. April 29 to Walmart on a report of a theft. Officers spoke to employees who witnessed Hamilton leave the store with merchandise without paying for it. The merchandise was valued at $173. Hamilton had previously been served a notice April 13, 2018, she was not to return to Walmart or she would be charged with trespass. Hamilton was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Kelsi A. Smith, 28, of Prairie City, was arrested at 10:40 a.m. May 14 at the Adult Probation Office on a Polk County probation violation warrant. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
