Goldie’s famous tenderloin in the running for best in state

Grab your computer, smart phone or tablet and get clicking for Goldie’s Ice Cream Shoppe’s Breaded Pork Tenderloin. As a part of the USA Today Travel Media Group’s 10 Best contest, Goldie’s breaded tenderloin is in the running to be named best in Iowa among breaded pork tenderloins throughout the state.

Goldie’s owner Brad Magg said he was contacted by a reporter from USA Today for photos and information on the shop but he wasn’t exactly sure what it was for until he was informed May 6 about the contest. Since then, he has shared the contest on Facebook hoping to push Goldie’s tenderloin to the top of the list.

“We’re encouraging and cheering on all of our wonderful customers and fans to vote for us as often as we can so we can maintain our status as the top tenderloin in Iowa,” Magg said.

Not new to fan fair, the tenderloin was selected as Iowa’s best in 2009 by the Iowa Pork Producers Associations and is a part of the Iowa Tenderloin Trail. Served traditionally, Magg-style with a cheeseburger in the same bun or Mingo-style with Mingo sausage and cheese, the tenderloin caught the eye of the three judges who scoured the state in search of the top 20 sandwiches.

The top 10 currently has Goldie’s in first followed by Darrell’s Place in Hamlin, The Buffalo Tavern in Burlington, Tojo’s Bar and Grill in Jamaica, Watcha Smokin’ BBQ and Brew in Luther, Dairy Sweet in Dunlap, Grid Iron Grill and Sports Lounge in Webster City, Stouts Irish Pub in Clinton, Brick Street Market in Bondurant and Belmond Drive-In in Belmond.

Voting runs through noon June 3 with the top 10 winning restaurants announced on 10Best.com June 14. To vote, head to www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-breaded-pork-tenderloin-in-iowa. Two votes can be cast daily.
