Steven Lowell Kono

Steven Lowell Kono, 64, of Grimes, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 25 at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 at Coburn Funeral Home. The son of Lowell Orville and Joann Ileane (Howell) Kono, Steven was born Sept. 18, 1954, in Newton. On Nov. 30, 1996, he was united in marriage to Sheila Shaw at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. Steve loved dogs and also enjoyed Nascar racing, hunting mushrooms, fishing and driving around town in his corvettes.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sheila; children, Draper Kono, Paris (Marco) Ches, Hannah (Travis Bennett) Kono, Kristen (Joe) Radford and Casey (Jilaine) Freeman; and seven grandchildren, with one on the way soon. Also surviving is his mother, Joann Carter; siblings, Brick (Terrie) Kono, Wendy (Doug) Patterson, Susanna Kono and Jason (Kim) Kono; as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his father, Lowell; stepfather, Richard Carter; a brother, Jared Kono; and his grandparents.
