Newton tennis girls lose to Norwalk

NORWALK — Newton High’s girls won two matches in their Little Hawkeye Conference tennis dual at Norwalk on Thursday.

Norwalk’s Warriors won 9-2. The Cardinals are 0-3 in LHC play and 1-5 overall.

Kloe Pettigrew won 6-0, 7-5 over Norwalk’s Ellie Riter at No. 5 singles for Newton. Lily Rausch and Maggie Garrett claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Norwalk’s Niemeyer and Faust at No. 4 doubles.

Garrett went to a third-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles after rallying to a 6-4 second-set win. Norwalk’s Niemeyer won 6-0, 4-6, 10-1. Pettigrew and Jamie Rogers lost in a third-set tiebreaker at No 2 doubles to Jordan Bandy and Riter, who won 3-6, 6-3, 10-0.

Other singles: No. 1-Bandy (No) 6-3, 6-1 over Ashley Loehr (Ne); No. 2-Kennedi Wright (No) 6-3, 6-1 over Rogers (Ne); No. 3-Alli Kreider (No) 6-0, 6-0 over Jaysea Miller (Ne); No.4-Jenna Agey (No) 7-6 (2), 6-2 over Kaylee Cross (Ne).

Other doubles: No. 1-Wright and Kreider (No) 6-1, 6-3 over Loehr and Miller (Ne); No. 3-Agey and Johnson (No) 6-1, 6-3 over Cross and Delaney Nasalroad (Ne); No. 5-Burnett and Lackmann (No) 6-1, 6-1 over Haley Rinehart and Cristal Perez (Ne).

Newton hosts Pella Christian in LHC play at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Aurora Heights Park.
