• Darise M. Giles, 35, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 4:12 p.m. April 15. According to the Newton Police Department, officers were called to Walmart to investigate a shoplifting incident April 11. A Walmart employee saw Giles on video surveillance exit the store without paying for goods valued at $84.47. Officers located Giles April 11, and she told officers she did shop at Walmart and produced a receipt for good purchased April 8. Giles told the officers she tried to use a credit card to purchase the item, but it may not have worked. Officers reviewed video surveillance and saw Giles checking out, but she never attempted to pay for the items before leaving the store. Giles was issued a citation and released to appear in court.

• Chase J. Fust, 27, of Altoona, was charged with possession of a controlled substance — marijuana (second offense), possession of a controlled substance (second offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia at 7:15 p.m. April 15 in the 100 block of West Fourth Street South. According to the Newton Police Department, officers conducted a routine traffic stop. Fust was the driver of the vehicle who had an active arrest warrant from the Altoona Police Department on a fourth-degree theft charge. Officers placed Fust under arrested and searched him and found methamphetamine in his pants pocket. Officers also found a marijuana “dab” in Fust’s sweatshirt pocket and a needle Fust said he used to inject himself with methamphetamine.
