PCM girls return to Central, win two more relays

PELLA — Returning to Central College’s indoor track, Prairie City-Monroe’s girls’ track and field team claimed two more wins and grabbed plenty of top-three finishes on Thursday evening.

The Mustangs won a pair of relays, were second in two other events and took third in another.

The victories came in the 4x400-meter relay and the 55-meter shuttle hurdle relay.

Senior Payton Schut, juniors Sierra Foster and Kate McCarthy and sophomore Margo Chipps won the 4x400 relay in 4 minutes, 28.13 seconds.

Chipps teamed with sophomore Maybelle Smith, junior Lexi Kuecker and senior Morgan Uhlenhopp to win the shuttle hurdle relay in 42.08 seconds.

Kuecker was the runner-up in the long jump. Her best leap was 14 feet, 2 1/2 inches.

Kuecker also was part of the second-place California Mile team. The eight Mustangs who ran 200 meters each were Kuecker, Chipps, Foster, Schut, McCarthy, Uhlenhopp, sophomore Celeste Wagaman and freshman Brionna Kalar. They finished the race in 3:58.65.

The Mustangs’ 4x800 relay team also was second.

That foursome included juniors Hannah McCarthy and Klaire Jungling, sophomore Lilli Baird and freshman Delaney Baird, and they finished in 11:30.

The lone third-place finish came from Wagaman in the high jump. Her best leap was 4-8.

A pair of relays were fourth for PCM.

The 55 shuttle relay team finished in 32.43 seconds, and the sprint medley relay team crossed the finish line in 2:06.01.

The shuttle relay team included Wagaman, Kalar and freshmen Belle Hudnut and Kate McClellan. The sprint medley relay foursome was Kuecker, Schut, Foster and Uhlenhopp.

Smith finished sixth in the 55 hurdles with a time of 10.94 seconds.
