Colfax woman killed in Tuesday morning auto accident

A Colfax woman was pronounced dead after a motor vehicle accident Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highway 163 and Prairie Avenue, southeast of Prairie City.

Kathryn Eileen McLain, 83, was taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center by Prairie City EMS and pronounced dead after the 7:18 a.m. accident.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, troopers investigating at the scene found a 1995 Honda Civic, driven by 58-year-old Greg Leonard Weldon of Knoxville, was traveling westbound on Highway 163. A 1998 Mercury Villager, driven by McLain, had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection, pulled out in front of Weldon's vehicle and was broadsided, the report said.

Weldon did receive injuries from the accident and was transported by Monroe EMS to Pella Regional Health Center.

Hewitts Service Center of Monroe towed both vehicles away from the scene.
