Frances L. Kibbee

Frances L. Kibbee, 84, of Newton, died March 9, 2019, at the Newton Health Care Center in Newton.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Harley Schull, Grinnell Church of the Nazarene and Pastor Jack Dostal, Newton Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Brown, Jr., Clayton Bru, Jay Durant, Jimmy Hulbert, Robert Mattson and Steven Rice. Honorary bearers will be Michael Brown, Sr., Tony Gabreilson and Steven and Timmy Kibbee. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Visitation with the family present will be prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Frances Kibbee Memorial Fund.

Frances was born March 17, 1934, in Grinnell, the daughter of Elmer and Beatrice Clevenger McDonald. She was raised in Grinnell and was a graduate of Grinnell High School.

On Sept. 14, 1954, she was united in marriage to Harold James Kibbee at the Grinnell Church of the Nazarene. The couple lived in Brooklyn where they raised their family. Following the death of her husband in 1993, she lived in Grinnell and Montezuma prior to moving to Newton in 2014. While in Grinnell she was employed for several years at St. Francis Manor. She had been a resident of Newton Health Care Center since October of 2018.

Frances attended the Church of the Nazarene in Grinnell and Newton. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, solving crossword puzzles and reading, especially the Bible on a daily basis. Frances was a very loving person and everyone knew her as “grandma!”

Survivors include four children, Deborah (Michael, Sr.) Brown of Newton, Jeri Kibbee of Montezuma, Eddie Kibbee of Deshler, Neb., and Connie Mattson of Newton; nine grandchildren, Sheri Kibbee, Tony (Sharon) Gabreilson, Michael Brown, Jr., Danny Kibbee, Joey (Brittany) Kibbee, Adrianna (Brandon) Goken, Steven (Erin) Kibbee, Ashley (Jay) Durant and Jamie (Clayton Bru) Marsh; one sister, Darlene McDonald of Hooper, Utah; and many great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Jimmie Kibbee; a granddaughter, Stephanie Kibbee; four great-grandchildren, Leanna and Mureea Marsh, Nikia Cassidy and Angel Kibbee; two sisters, Sheri Smith and Doris Coleman; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Kibbee.​
