• Luke J. Waters, 22, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 3 a.m. Tuesday. According to Newton police, officers were sent to Love’s truck stop for a theft. Upon arrival, employees told officers Waters allegedly had items in his pockets, including an empty phone charger box, valued at $19.99 and a box of headphones, valued at $37.99. Waters was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Stephan A. Barth, 31, of Newton, was charged with violating a no-contact order at 12:12 p.m. Feb. 22. According to Newton police, while lodged at Jasper County Jail, it was discovered through another inmate’s phone account, Barth allegedly attempted to call the cell phone of a person he had a no-contact order for.
