C-M boys open indoor track season at UNI

CEDAR FALLS — Colfax-Mingo’s boys’ track team took a handful of athletes to its season-opening indoor meet at Northern Iowa on March 5 at the A.D. Dickinson Relays.

The top finisher on the day was junior Brady Berkey in the high jump. Berkey, who is out for track for the first time in his career, placed 42nd with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches.

Berkey also was part of a 50th place finish in the 4x200-meter relay.

The foursome of Berkey, sophomore A.J. Gibson and seniors Holister Koenig and Zarek Hill finished in 1 minute, 42.15 seconds.

Koenig also had a 50th-place finish in the long jump. His best jump was marked at 18-9. Koenig was 114th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.79 seconds.

The next best finish came from Hill in the 200. He was 57th overall with a time of 25.04.

Gibson also competed in the 200 and placed 131st with a time of 26.13.

Hill and Berkey were both in the 60 high hurdles. Hill was 74th in 9.84 seconds and Berkey placed 103rd in 10.64.

Gibson and junior Hunter Green joined Koenig in the 400. Gibson was 136th with a time of 59.92 and Green was 157th in 1:01.05.

Green also ran in the 800, finishing 147th in 2:32.92.

The Tigerhawks are next in action as a full team at the South Iowa Cedar League Indoor Meet at Grinnell College at 4:15 p.m. on March 18 in Grinnell.
